Donors Visit Electrical Shop Open House

Some of the major donors who have helped make Williamson’s newest trade, Construction Technology – Electrical Emphasis, possible, got to see the shop they helped fund on Tuesday in an Electrical Shop Open House.

After being greeted by members of the Advancement staff in the lobby of Rowan Hall, the group had lunch in the dining room, then headed to the shop.

Brent Ebner, director of the electrical program, opened the program giving the group some of his background and a summary of what the program will cover in a student’s three years at Williamson. He said they start by learning the fundamentals on small, mobile, wood boards. Throughout this process, students are tested on competency and safety. After mastering on the small boards, students work on projects in the studded rooms for real job site applications. He also said that employment opportunities for graduates of the program are excellent.

Next, Jeremy Bony 2W5, shop foreman, and Griffon Moeller 2W5, shop sub foreman, talked of their background, explained why they chose the electrical program, and talked about their employment plans after graduation. Both students are excited to be in the new program and are eager to learn as much as they can. They each answered questions of the guests.

President Michael Rounds and Dr. Michelle Williams, vice president of academic affairs/chief academic officer, each talked of the great employment opportunities for graduates of the program and said that the new program is extremely popular with prospective students and is in demand.

The group then walked around the shop, examining some of the equipment, and talked with the students. Everyone was having such a good time they had trouble pulling themselves away.

Guests included: Hamilton Family Charitable Trust – Samuel Hamilton III, Grants Committee; Chekemma Fulmore-Townsend, president; Barbara Cobb, board of directors; Maryum Darby-Madison, program manager.

Connelly Foundation – Tom Connelly, retired president and trustee; Jennifer Carroll, program officer for human services.

Justamere Foundation – Lori Cushman, president

Major donors to the program are the Hamilton Family Charitable Trust and the Connelly Foundation.
