Alumni Day Brings Alumni to Campus

Alumni Day 2022 on June 4th saw alumni and guests on campus socializing, seeing the changes to the campus, and enjoying a variety of events.

Attendees started their day signing in at the Welcome Center, where they were greeted by members of the Office of Institutional Advancement and given a campus map, schedule of events and picked-up some Williamson summer giveaways.

Most guests, including a large number of members of the Class of 7W2 who were celebrating their 50th reunion, attended the Alumni Memorial Chapel Service in Alumni Hall. In addition to inspirational words from Chaplain Mark Specht 7W7, alumni who passed away in the past school year were recognized, and members of 7W2 stood and talked of the impact attending chapel as students had on their lives.

Visiting their old shops was a popular event for alumni. They were able to speak with instructors and students and got to see the changes to their shops.

Everyone then headed to the dining room for brunch followed by President Michael Rounds giving a state of the school address. A thank you went out to the new Wanamaker Society members who were in attendance, Harry “Dave” Aulthouse 5W0 and Randy B. Reynolds 7W2, who each received a special recognition pin. Society members have remembered Williamson in their wills or planned gifts.

In addition, Rounds was pleased to announce the launch of the new Williamson Association of Alumni (WAA) and new WAA president Chris Moran 9W9 and vice president Dustin Shadler 0W5. The WAA will begin activities in the fall. Information on the new association is available online at www.williamson.edu/waa

Following brunch, guests enjoyed seeing the Senior Horticulture Campus Project behind the Power Plant, a beautifully landscaped patio with areas for grilling, socializing, and playing cornhole. They also strolled through Cottage Row and other common areas on campus.

Guests also purchased Williamson souvenirs and clothing at the College Store and visited Williamson Auxiliary’s table on the lineup pad. A quilt, made by hand using Williamson T-shirts representing all the shops and sports teams, was awarded to Jim Gourley 7W3.

A flag lowering ceremony at 1:15 closed the event.
