Power Plant Technology Instructor

POSITION PURPOSE

The Power Plant Instructor assists the Program Director in the development of programmatic initiatives and curriculum. The instructor is assigned to teach specific courses as assigned by the Program Director.

DUTIES

The Power Plant Technology Instructor will be responsible for teaching multiple theory classes and labs/shops in one or more of the following areas: low/high pressure boilers, electrical power, electrical wiring, power plant basics, fluids/hydraulics/pneumatics, industrial controls, programmable logic controllers, thermodynamics, turbines, industrial controls, power plant blue print reading, and boiler chemistry.

Essential duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Provide instruction and develop student skills for assigned courses and shops/labs.
  • Supervise student involvement in practical work assignments and school projects, while assisting students with classroom assignments and skill development to encourage successful attainment of program standards.
  • Regularly and consistently monitor and record student aptitude and performance in classroom and/or shop/lab settings by means of standard instruments of evaluation.
  • Be highly motivated and engage the students in the learning process.
  • Serve as a role model for students and embrace/demonstrate the school’s core values.
  • Implement the School’s academic policies related to grading, academic probation, course failure, and course failure remediation.
  • Assist in planning and coordinating the logistics for program functions, including: instruction equipment and supplies; field trips; off-campus appointments; student internship programs; community service projects; special presentations to the students.
  • Maintain effective communication and close cooperation with the Program Director, Vice President of Academic Affairs and other faculty/staff to effectively attain the overall educational objectives of the program.
  • Participate in professional development activities, as outlined in the Faculty Professional Development Plan.
  • Attend and participate in scheduled In-Service Training sessions.
  • Support student compliance with Williamson’s Conduct Code, including regulations regarding attendance, dress and grooming, drug and alcohol abuse, fire and safety, and those general regulations that embody the ideals of student behavior.
  • Follow all school policies and procedures as described in the Employee Handbook.
  • Assist students in adjusting to established disciplinary standards and in internalizing the vital moral, ethical, and spiritual values of the School, with special emphasis on developing a strong work ethic.
  • Assist in overseeing compliance with applicable safety standards, OSHA regulations, accident prevention rules and procedures, and hazardous materials handling requirements in the shop and on all school-related projects.
  • Effectively manage course information and student performance indicators within the college’s learning management system and/or student information management system.
  • Perform other duties as occasionally be assigned by the Program Director, Vice President of Academic Affairs or the President.

QUALIFICATIONS                                                                              

  • Education: A Bachelor’s degree in a related field (Master’s degree strongly desired).
  • A minimum of five years of relevant teaching experience or experience in the trade.
  • Expertise to be able to instruct in one or more of these areas: low/high pressure boilers, electrical power, electrical wiring, electrical engineering, power plant basics, fluids/hydraulics/pneumatics, industrial controls, programmable logic controllers, thermodynamics, turbines, industrial controls, power plant blueprint reading, and boiler chemistry.
  • Teaching experience at the secondary and/or post-secondary level is desirable.
  • OSHA 30 certification is not required, but desirable.
  • Experience with online teaching tools is desirable but not required.

COMPENSATION

Based on educational qualifications and applicable industry and teaching experience, the annual salary for the non-tenured, ten-month appointment is in the competitive range and includes an excellent benefits package.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Physical demands of the position require standing on your feet for extended periods of time to teach in the classroom.
  • Physical demands also require teaching labs/shops, using visual, audio and computer assisted technology.
