Doug Thompson is School's Next Head Baseball Coach
Williamson is pleased to announce the hiring of Mr. Doug Thompson as the school's next head baseball coach. He replaces former coach Kevin Scott who stepped down due to his increasing commitment to Young Life ministries in the Ridley School district. Though stepping down as head coach, Scott will remain on at Williamson as a volunteer assistant/pitching coach.
Thompson comes to Williamson via Lincoln University where he was the head coach for the past 5 seasons. During his time at the helm Lincoln experienced unparalleled success. In addition to coaching several All-Americans, his teams set numerous school records including most wins in a single season. He also successfully oversaw Lincoln's transition from an NCAA Division III institution to an NCAA Division II classification.
"We are extremely pleased to have Doug on board as our new coach," commented athletic director Dale Plummer. He has a great track record and having played against some of his teams at Lincoln we saw first hand the type of program he runs. His teams are always well coached and well disciplined and we are excited about what Doug brings to Williamson.
A former player at Norfolk State University, Thompson brings almost 25 years of coaching experience to Williamson. He is excited about the opportunity at Williamson.
"I'm thrilled to be a part of the Williamson community and to take over such an outstanding program. The school stands for everything I believe in and I can't wait to get started."
Thompson is taking over a program that has made it to the Eastern States Baseball League Championship series in each of the past 4 years-winning 3 of those titles. It is that standard of excellence that has him even more excited.
"I appreciate the job coach Scott did with the program. He has done an outstanding job and has instilled a standard of excellence that is unprecedented. I will be looking to continue that success."
Scott leaves Williamson with a 60-37 overall record in 4 years, including 3 ESBL titles.
"I'm so thankful to Williamson for the opportunity it has given me and believe me-if it were up to me I'd still be the head coach but the Lord has called me to become more involved with Young Life and I have to put His will ahead of mine. I will forever cherish my time at the school and for the opportunities granted me to be so involved in the players lives."
