In Memoriam – Glenn E. Stevick 4W0

This October, The Williamson Free School of Mechanical Trades suffered a tragic loss when Glenn E. Stevick, Class of 1940 passed away. The loss of Mr. Stevick is a great one to the School as his history with Williamson dates back more than seven decades.

Stevick’s relationship with Williamson started in 1937 as a student in the newly established Painting and Decorating Program.  It blossomed into a 70-year marathon of learning, teaching and mentoring during which Mr. Stevick touched the lives of students, faculty and staff throughout the Williamson community.

Shortly after his graduation from Williamson, Mr. Stevick entered the Army serving as First Lieutenant during World War II. During this time, he met his wife Phyllis, an army nurse.  Upon retiring from the Army, Mr. Stevick spent nearly 20 years practicing his trade and teaching part-time at local vocational-technical schools before he returned to Williamson as the instructor of the program he graduated from 35 years earlier.  During his 30-year tenure, Stevick designed the first Structural Coatings Technology Program of its kind in the country and saw the first Associate in Specialized Technology Degrees in the trade granted in 1980 before he retired in 1995.  Stevick remained active with the School through his continued involvement with the Program, along with his extensive participation in Williamson Athletics and many years of activity with the Alumni Association and School events.

Over the years, Mr. Stevick was recognized by Williamson with three of the School’s highest awards, the Isaiah V. Williamson Award, the Distinguished Alumnus Award, and the Alumnus of the Year Award.  In 1996, the School named the Glenn E. Stevick 4W0 Program in Structural Coatings Technology in his honor.

Mr. and Mrs. Stevick have had an extraordinary influence in their church and community over the years as well. Read more about their affiliations here.

Glenn E. Stevick 4W0 will truly be missed at The Williamson Free School in so many ways.  We are all grateful for the piece of history he created through his dedication and commitment to the School’s mission.
