Ten Williamson Students Take Gold At SkillsUSA State Competitions

Ten Williamson students won gold at the SkillsUSA state competitions at the Lehigh Career and Technical Institute recently.

Daniel L. Hiltebeitel, director of construction technology-masonry and SkillsUSA adviser, said “When I came to Williamson, my goal was to increase the skill proficiency of Williamson’s masons and to let it to be known throughout the state. Nationally, I wanted it to be known that Williamson is the best trade school in the country. We’ll never know if everyone knows this, but our work in SkillsUSA is a good way to get the word out that Williamson is the best trade school.”

The winners, in the post-secondary level, are:

  • Automated Manufacturing Technology: Jason Bateman, Shawn Scott, and Fran Sellitto (all senior machine tool technology students)
  • Carpentry: Mike Eroch (junior, construction technology-carpentry)
  • Masonry: Mike Wagner (senior construction technology-masonry)
  • Team Works: William “Buck” Harper (junior, power plant technology); Kevin Hatch (junior, power plant technology); George Phillips (senior, construction technology-masonry); Gerard Schneider (senior, construction technology-carpentry)
  • Precision Machine Technology: Ben Carter (senior, machine tool technology)

To compete at states, each student first won competitions at the local and district levels. All gold winners are eligible to compete at the national competition in Kansas City, Mo., June 20-25.
