In Memoriam...

During 2007, The Williamson Free School of Mechanical Trades bid a sad farewell to a number of its beloved family members.  As we near year’s end, we remember those friends and family who have touched our lives so deeply.

Early this year, alumnus Steve DelGrande 9W2 (pictured, right) lost a long battle with cancer leaving behind his loving wife, Heather and three young sons. Steve touched many lives at Williamson as a student, alumnus and friend. He spearheaded efforts to promote student activities such as Wing Night and the Wing Bowl. Steve will continue to impact the lives of Williamson students through the naming of the Stephen A. Del Grande 9W2 Study Area located in the library at the Strine Learning Center.

Long-time friends and supporters of the School, Peter Prox 4W0 and Walter Sarbaugh 4W6 also passed this year. Their continued involvement with Williamson Advancement efforts over so many years is invaluable.

Along with Mr. Prox, the Class of 4W0 lost Floyd O. Scott and Glenn E. Stevick (pictured, below). Mr. Stevick’s relationship with Williamson started in 1937 as a student in the newly established Painting and Decorating Program. It blossomed into a 70-year marathon of learning, teaching and mentoring during which Mr. Stevick touched the lives of students, faculty and staff throughout the Williamson community.

The Class of 6W5 also lost two beloved class members, James F. Acker and James D. Regester.

Williamson will sadly miss Trustee Emeritus Richard W. Schwertner and long-time friend Dorothy R. Miller, wife of Harry Miller 3W6, deceased. These friends showed extraordinary commitment to Williamson’s mission during their lives.

Williamson also mourns the death of the following alumni each of whom will be truly missed by classmates, staff, and friends of the School: Robert Jacoby 3W5; George W. Stiles 6W7; John E. Zeller 3W3; Richard D. Starr 5W5; Norman A. Jacobs 4W3; David O. Price 4W4; Ronald Riling 5W9; Russell I. Bixler 4W0; William R. Evans 6W0; Carl C. Gingery 3W9; George E. McCord 3W8; George Walton (son of Harold Walton 1W0, Deceased); Norman R. Lawrence 5W3; Daniel J. Ciampoli 0W4; Gary L. Sherbine 6W2.
