Williamson in the Community
A Look Back at 2006-07

In keeping with Isaiah Williamson’s original vision of this School, Williamson encourages all students to participate in projects that serve the community.  Through these special opportunities, students experience professional and personal fulfillment helping them develop into the “respected members of society” envisioned by the founder.

Projects may lead Williamson students around the corner or around the globe.  Earlier this year, 44 Williamson students spent their winter break in Bay St. Louis, Mississippi, working to rebuild and restore the town which suffered insurmountable damage in the wrath of Hurricane Katrina (pictured).  Later in the year, a group of 14 members of the Williamson family traveled to Paraiso, Dominican Republic to complete construction on the hospital they started on 11 years ago.

Locally, Williamson students also helped build a playground for Children and Adult Disability and Educational Services (CADES) in Swarthmore. Williamson carpenters had the unique experience of building and installing an obstacle course for Newtown Township Police Department's K-9 training unit. They also constructed a trophy case for Chichester Municipal Building; built entertainment cabinets for the Chester County Domestic Abuse Center; and helped build a house with special accommodations for an Iraq War veteran who suffered a serious combat injury.

Other interesting projects include: Williamson Machinists fabricated four battering rams for the Delaware County Drug Enforcement Agency to use on drug raids; Horticulture students developed landscape designs for the Wallingford Community Arts Center; and students in Williamson’s Paint & Coatings Technology Program painted the interior of the Rose Tree Fire Company and the ceiling of Grace Church in Philadelphia.
