Burke Named Head Lacrosse Coach

Not to be lost in the School’s search for a new head football coach, Williamson recently was forced to search for a new head lacrosse coach after former head coach Buzz Lynn stepped down after two years due to health restrictions.

After an exhaustive search and several extremely qualified candidates, athletic director Dale Plummer recently announced that Brian Burke was hired to take over the program.

Brian was both an outstanding high school and collegiate player, earning All-Delco honors three times while at Haverford High School and All-Middle Atlantic Conference honors while playing at Elizabethtown College. He has had various coaching jobs as an assistant coach at area high schools as well as being the head coach of several youth programs.

Plummer said, “We are excited to have Brian on board as part of the Williamson coaching family. He is well qualified, familiar with the School and has coaching as part of his roots. There is no doubt he will do an outstanding job.”

As far as being familiar with the School goes, Burke’s father was an assistant football coach at Williamson back in the mid-1990s and his brother currently attends Williamson. It was his knowledge of the school as well as the potential to build the program that made Williamson all that more attractive to him.

Burke said, “I’m extremely thankful to Mr. Plummer and the School for this opportunity. I’ve always had a love for Williamson starting way back to when I was coming to games when my father was coaching here. With my brother attending, I know first-hand what a phenomenal job the School does of preparing young men for life.

“As far as lacrosse goes, I think there is the potential to build the program in a big way over time. TheSchool had great success as a member of the NCLL back in the early 2000s and with the School transitioning the program back in that direction and moving forward, I think the lacrosse future is very bright at Williamson. I’m extremely excited to be a part of that future.”
