Campaign Objectives

Operations Support/Annual Giving
Funding for operations is a critical element for the survival of the School into the future, especially as operational expenses continue to grow at rates outpacing the cost of living and the economy reduces the return on the School’s carefully managed investments.

Over $2 million is needed annually, over and above investment returns, to fund operations. Williamson is dependent on regular annual support for operations to offset the vast difference of what is needed and what the endowment can earn.

The need is $8.5 million in additional ongoing support for operations.

Revitalizing the Campus
Williamson strives to create a culture and environment that builds positive, successful behavior patterns that will produce within each student enduring values and basic life principals.  We believe that the physical campus: the buildings, grounds and facilities play a dynamic role in Williamson's ability to successfully enhance the lives of our students.

The dormitories are over 115 years old and most have not had major renovations in 50 years.  A complete overhaul is needed on five of the six cottage dormitories.  The campaign seeks to provide funding to complete one dorm renovation in this planning period.

For many years, the School's program has been decentralized, locating the School's academic programs and facilities in areas apart from the shops.  In addition, the 118-year-old library had become significantly dysfunctional in its size and location.   A new library and student learning center that would house all non-shop programs was needed..  Subsequently, a gift of $3 million was provided by alumnus Walter M. Strine Sr., 2W9 creating the Walter M. Strine, Sr. 2W9 Learning Center.

The need is $4 million to support capital enhancements that will ensure a dynamic campus experience.

Endowment
The most critical goal of the Campaign is to increase the endowment, without which Williamson will not be able to remain a free institution.

In response to the need to grow the endowment, Henry M. Rowan, founder and chairman of Inductotherm, Inc., established a challenge grant of $5 million, in which he will match endowment gifts dollar for dollar.

The need is $12.5 million in funding for the endowment.
