The Mechanics once again rallied from a 3-1 deficit late in the 2nd half to tie things up before a penalty kick by Gus Hernandez with under 7 minutes to play gave them the upset victory. Williamson got on the board first but a 3 goal flurry by the NJCAA Division I Oaks gave them the big lead at half. A young Mechanics squad once again proved its resiliency as they battled back to defeat Salem for the 1st time in school history. Besides Hernandez, Matt Rowe, Tim Gillin and Cody Lenker all added goals to give Williamson its biggest win since their 2006 ESSL championship win. [close] |

Some outstanding saves by goalie Andrew Himmer down the stretch sealed the Mechanics win as they pulled off their 2nd major upset in their last 3 games. Taking on a Crusader team that was 6-1 coming in, Williamson used goals by Matt Rowe and Gus Hernandez to pull out to a 2-0 1st half lead. Christendom then came right back to make it 2-1 at half. Himmer came up big time after time in the 2nd half and especially in the final 10 minutes to raise the Mechanics record to 2-3 on the year. [close] |

Annual Alumni game |

The varsity avenged last year’s loss to the Alumni but had to hang on to do so in a spirited Homecoming Day game. Nick Greco and Cody Lenker gave Williamson an early 2-0 lead as they scored 3 minutes apart early in the contest. The Mechanics then tacked on 2 more goals to move to a 4-0 advantage before the Alumni came storming back on goals by Yohan Banfield and Mike Welch. The teams battled with the Alumni getting several good chance to move it even closer. Ryan Bonner’s goal with under 10 seconds to play capped off the scoring for the Alumni. The varsity will take on Valley Forge Military in the ESSL championship game on Thursday, November 5 @ 3:00 P.M. The game will be played at Valley Forge unless Williamson can defeat the Trojans by more than 3 goals in their 10/29 match-up. That game is currently up in the air as to whether it will be played due to poor field conditions made worse by the rain. An announcement will be made on Thursday, 10/29 by noon. [close] |

It was a spirited game between the alumni team and this year’s varsity squad and the final results could not have been any closer. A late goal by Evan Heavy put the varsity up 3-2 in regulation but a goal with just under 3 minutes later by alum Johan Banfield forced the game to be decided by penalty kicks. After 10 rounds of penalty kicks the 2 teams were still tied (5-5). They then were forced to go into sudden death penalty kicks with the alumni team finally besting the varsity 3-2 in sudden death kicks to come away with a 4-3 victory. It was just the 2nd time since the alumni game was started that the alumni team has come away with a victory. Special thanks to the over 15 alums who came back to make it such a great event.
