| Senior wide receiver Geoffrey Paugam had 4 receptions for 99 yards and 2 touchdown in the first half alone, before cramping forced him to miss the entire 2nd half, but it was not enough as Williamson lost to Widener’s JV team 39-14 on August 24. Three big plays by Widener killed the Mechanics as the Pioneers scored on a 62 yard run, an 80 yard kick-off return and a 62 yard interception return for a touchdown. Aside from Paugam’s outstanding effort, Williamson was led on offense by quarterbacks Steven Powers (6-9 for 92 yards) and Ryan Asti (6-19 for 89 yards) who each threw for 1 TD. On defense John Paul Conneen led the way with 7 tackles, 2 sacks and a blocked punt. Gary Lazaro also added 8 tackles. [close] |

Bobby Pylant’s tackle of Amos Crudrup in the Berean backfield on a 2-point conversion attempt with 1.6 seconds left sealed a dramatic victory for Williamson to give the Mechanics their 1st win of the year.
In what might have been the wildest final 4 minutes of a Williamson game in a long time, the Mechanics found themselves down 14-13 as Berean scored with just under 4 minutes to go to take the lead. Williamson then drove the length of the field only to have a 32 yard field goal attempt blocked with 58 seconds left in the game. After using their final 2 timeouts on 1st and 2nd down runs by Berean, the Bears somehow managed to fumble on 3rd down with Williamson’s own Dennis Dougherty recovering. After 2 incompletions, a diving reception by T.J. Long gave the Mechanics a 1st down at the Berean 29 yard line. On the next play QB Steven Powers found Brian Zdun in the corner of the end zone for the 19-13 lead with just 28 seconds remaining. Williamson added a 2-point conversion for what seemed to be the capper on a great comeback win.
However, Berean took the ensuing kick-off 45 yards and 2 plays later threw a long pass down to the Williamson 6 yard line for a 1st and goal with 8 seconds left. QB Mark Ingram then rolled out and scored on a TD run with 1/6 seconds left to move to within 21-20. Berean then went for the win with a 2-point conversion attempt. It was then that Bobby Pylant came up with biggest tackle in his career. [close] |

A controversial call on a 2-point conversion attempt in the closing minutes denied Williamson the chance to send the game into overtime as they fell to the Aggies by a score of 27-25.
QB Steven Powers picked right up where he left off the previous week as he threw for 349 yards and 2 TDs. Brian Zdun had 9 recpetions for 112 yards and a TD and Geoffrey Paugam had 6 catches for 156 yards and 1 TD. Curtis Schofield led the ground attack with 79 yards as the Mechanics rolled to over 430 yards of total offense.
On defense, Matt Moccia forced a fumble and returned it 29 yards for a TD while Gary Lazaro had an interceptions to go along with 6 tackles. Mike Mitchell once again has a big day as he had 11 tackles (10 solo), including 3 for loss, as well as a blocked kick. [close] |

Bobby Pylant was once again in on a key 2-point conversion attempt stop as he teamed with Matt Litton to stop Widener’s Bob Brice late in the game to preserve Williamson’s 21-20 victory this past Sunday. It was the 2nd time in the last 3 games that Pylant was in on a key stop at the end of the game to allow Williamson to win a 21-20 game. Two weeks ago he stopped Amos Crudrupp from Berean with 1 .6 seconds left to give Williamson the victory.
Williamson’s win avenged a 39-14 earlier season loss to Widener. This time around it was the Mechanics defense that came up big when it had to. Matt Moccia had 11 tackles while John Paul Conneen added 8, a sack and a blocked kick. Sean Lyons also added his 3rd interception on the year. On offense, Steven Powers led the way as he passed for 228 yards and 3 TDs. Brian Zdun had 5 receptions for 79 yards and 2 TDs while Geoffrey Paugam had 3 catches for 68 yards and a TD. Pat Forrest was 3-3 on extra points to round out the scoring. [close] |

A copy of the press release sent the the Daily Times detailing Williamson’s biggest win since 2001
Williamson Pulls Of A dramatic Double-Overtime Win
To call Williamson the cardiac kids might be a bit of an understatement. Having had 3 of their previous 4 games decided by 2 points or less, Coach Bill Haines hoped his heart might get a bit of a rest against George Mason. Not so once again as for the 3rd time in 4 games Williamson pulled out a last second win this time defeating George Mason University 35-34 in double overtime in a game for the ages. And it was “the drive” at the end of regulation by Williamson that will long be remembered for allowing Williamson to pull off one of the biggest upsets in their recent history.
After stopping George Mason at the Williamson 22 yard line with 1:04 left in the game, Gary Lazaro managed to block a 39 yard field goal attempt by Korey Hitchens to keep Williamson alive. With the ball at their own 27 and no timeouts left, QB Steven Powers then did his best John Elway impersonation as hooked up with WR Geoffrey Paugam on a 43 yard reception on a 3rd and 10 play to get to the George Mason 30 yard line. The next play he found Paugam in the end zone where he made an incredible catch and managed to keep his feet in bounds to bring Williamson to within a point. Pat Forrest’s extra point was partially blocked but still managed to trickle through he uprights to send the game into overtime.
Williamson had the ball first in the 1st overtime and although they picked up a 1st down, the drive stalled. Forrest’s 32 yard field goal attempt sailed wide left and George Mason took over. The Williamson defense came up big to force Korey Hitchens to try a 38 yard field goal to win the game. His kick at first looked like it would be good but a swirling wind forced the ball to hit the cross bar and bounce out giving Williamson new life.
George Mason did not take long to strike as on the 1st play in the 2nd overtime as Phillip Adams connected with Michael Nunnelly on a 25 yard TD pass to put the Patriots on top 34-28. Hitchens extra point attempt somehow sailed wide left giving Williamson new life
On 1st down Powers found Paugam again-this time for a 20 yard strike to give the Mechanics 1st and goal at the 5. Two plays later Buck Harper was stopped inches short of the goal line however a personal foul call against George Mason gave Williamson a 1st and goal at the 1. Two plays later Harper took it in to knot the score at 34. It was then that Forrest, with the game on the line, made the biggest kick of his career in adding the extra point and giving Williamson the dramatic come from behind win.
The win was Williamson’s 1st Seaboard Conference victory since 2001 which is also the last time they beat George Mason. The win snapped an 18 game conference losing streak.
Offensively, Paugam stole the show as he had 7 receptions for 206 yards and 2 TDs-none bigger than the one at the end of regulation. Powers threw for 258 yards and Harper had 2 TDs on the ground.
Defensively, the Mechanics were led by John Paul Conneen (Cardinal O’Hara) who had 13 tackles, 1 for loss and 2 passes knocked down and Mike Mitchell (Haverford) who had 12 tackles, including 2 for loss. Safety Gary Lazaro (Ridley) had 9 tackles, including 3 key ones in the 1st overtime to force George Mason into the field goal try.
“I’m so proud of the way our kids hung in there. Our defense really regrouped in the 2nd half and our offensive line gave Powers the time to throw the ball when he needed to. And Geoffrey-he proved again why he is the finest WR in the league. Now, if only we could win a game by more than a point!” exclaimed Haines.

It was a tale of 2 halves during the game. Williamson dominated the first half statistically as they jumped out to a 19-12 lead over NCAA Division III member Gallaudet. It was all Gallaudet from there as they turned the tables and ran away with the 2nd half and the game by scoring 20 4th quarter points en route to the victory.
Curtis Schofield had his best day yet for Williamson as he rushed for 107 yards and scored 2 TDs. Geoffrey Paugam added 7 catches for 136 yards and a TD. On defense Brett Hagner had a big game as he had 8 tackles, including 1 for loss. Matt Moccia and Mike Mitchell both added 7 tackles each. [close] |

Last Saturday, alumni and parents joined Williamson students in celebrating the School’s first victory against Stevens Institute of Technology in fifteen games – a losing streak dating back to 1999.
As a result of the 3 inches of rain that fell since Wednesday, the alumni baseball and soccer games scheduled for Homecoming morning were canceled. With the forecast calling for clearing shortly after noon, the football game commenced under sunny skies.
To say that this 9-8 win was an upset might be putting it mildly. Williamson lost to Stevens three weeks ago by a score of 55-7.
With four players injured including starting free safety Sean Lyons, head coach Bill Haines knew if he could get solid play from his line on both sides of the ball Williamson could pull off the miracle victory. “We really challenged the linemen to step it up and they did just that.”
It was Williamson’s offensive line that set the tempo this time around with 131 rushing yards, including an 11 yard touchdown run by Curtis Schofield, and 8 1st downs.
The defense was lead by freshman cornerback Shane Coyle (Sun Valley) as he tied a school record with 3 interceptions. Junior defensive end John Paul Conneen (Cardinal O’Hara) also had a monster game with 3.5 sacks to go with 11 tackles.
The teams were scoreless until 10:13 left in the 3rd quarter when Stevens tackled Curtis Schofield in the end zone for a safety. Stevens then took advantage of great field position after the ensuing kick-off to move 45 yards in 4 plays for a touchdown, however, they missed the extra point. And what a huge miss it would turn out to be.
Williamson then put together a 9 play 52 yard touchdown drive taking the score to 8-6. Midway through the 4th quarter Williamson turned to Forrest who did not let them down as he nailed the 29 yard field goal despite the muddy conditions.
“I’m so happy for Pat. That is 2 games he has won at the end for us and today’s was huge for him. To handle the pressure the way he did I am so proud of him, ” commented Haines.
Williamson’s defense, which let up over 400 yards to Stevens earlier in the year, came up big once again when senior cornerback Dennis Dougherty intercepted a Kyle Bennett pass to thwart a drive by Stevens with 4:21 left in the game.
“Very few people thought we could pull this off. Very few besides the coaches and the players. The Daily Times even had us losing by 21 prior to the game! We stuck together all week and despite some adversity we pulled through as a team. After 15 losses in a row to Stevens, this one feels great.”
With the win Williamson, which moves to 4-5 on the year and 2-1 in the conference, remains in the hunt for a piece of the Seaboard Conference championship. A Stevens win over Valley Forge Military next week will give Williamson a share of the crown for the 1st time since 1996. Considering they had not won a single league game since 2000 things are starting to look up for the Williamson football program. They close out their regular season next week at home against Walter Reed and a win would give them a .500 for the first time since 2000 as well.
“This win today shows the guys if they play the way they are capable of and buy into what we are doing, we can beat anybody.” Spoken like a coach who just won his first game against Stevens!

Williamson Caps out a Big Year; Paugam Makes History
Coming off their huge upset win over Stevens last week, there might have been some people who wondered how Williamson would come out this week against Walter Reed. The Mechanics answered those doubts right off the bat as they scored 19 points in the 1st quarter and rode that to a convincing 50-6 win over Walter Reed. Williamson receiver Geoffrey Paugam also managed to set school history as he hauled in 10 catches for 210 yards and 2 touchdowns giving him 1,013 yards for the season becoming the 1st wide receiver in Williamson’s 106 year football history to top 1,000 yards receiving.
Williamson played their best game on both sides of the ball. In addition to Paugam’s efforts freshman halfback Curtis Schofield rushed for over 100 yards (18-103) for the 2nd time in the last 3 games. QB Steven Powers capped off a big year as he passed for 238 yards and a TD. Buck Harper also added 2 TDs on the ground. Overall Williamson cranked out 462 yards of offense.
While the offense played well, the defense played even better. Mike Mitchell (Haverford) capped of a brilliant career as he had 9 tackles, including 2 for loss, 2 sacks, a pass break-up and he also returned an interception for a touchdown. Junior DE John Paul Conneen had another big game as he added3 more sacks this week to go with the 3 he had last week. He also had 5 additional tackles, a pass knockdown and a hurry. Williamson’s defense came up with 7 sacks and held the Warriors to just 9 net yards rushing on the day.
Williamson finishes the year at 5-5. It is the first time the team has finished at .500 since 2001. [close]
