The Mechanics staged a dramatic 3-run comeback in the final inning to come away with the victory in the 1st game while Andrew Abrams tossed a complete game allowing just 5 hits while striking out 11 to seal the deal for the Mechanics as they swept their way to the 2011 Eastern States Baseball League Championship.
In game 1, Williamson led 4-1 until the 5th inning when Valley Forge tied things up. The Patriots then used 2 errors and 2 hits to plate 2 runs in the 7th inning to put themselves in front, 6-4. It was then that Williamson staged their comeback. A key triple by Andrew Abrams and a key RBI by Mike Baselice tied the game at 6 all. Paul Sicurrella then had the game winning RBI to lead the Mechanics to the dramatic win. Baselice went the distance to pick up his 5th win on the year for Williamson. Ken Clark blasted a homerun and went 2-3 to lead Williamson.
In game #2 Abrams was dominating on the mound from the start as he went the distance to earn his 3rd win on the year. Tim Akers wet 3-3 with 2 RBIs while Andrew Nicastro went 2-3 as well. Ken Clark added 2 doubles and 2 RBIs as well for Williamson.
The ESBL is the 2nd straight championship for Williamson after a 3-year drought. They have won the title 5 times in school history.
"I'm proud of our effort," commented Williamson head coach Doug Thompson. We have had a difficult season battling the weather and injuries and a brutal non-conference schedule but it all paid off today. Valley Forge Christian is a very good team and we have a lot of respect for them. We had to battle but our kids put it all together when they had to. Again, I'm very proud of them." [close] |
